A navigator who only looks at the water directly in front of the bow will run aground. You must see across horizons — the immediate chop, the rolling swell, the distant weather. THE STRAT's Full Time Frame Continuity (FTFC) is your crow's nest: it shows you when all timeframes align, creating the highest-probability trades.
"Know what the larger timeframes are doing."
Full Time Frame Continuity (FTFC)
Definition: FTFC means all timeframes above your execution timeframe follow the SAME trend. This results in the highest probability of a successful trade.
The CHECK Process
Before entering ANY trade:
- Identify setup on your execution timeframe
- CHECK the next higher timeframe — aligned?
- CHECK the next higher timeframe — aligned?
- CHECK the highest timeframe — aligned?
- If ALL aligned = FTFC = highest probability trade
The Day Trading Timeframe Stack
| Purpose | Timeframe | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Entry & Stop | 5-minute | Precise execution |
| Combos, Entry & Targets | 30-minute | Setup identification |
| Trend Confirmation | Daily | Directional bias |
| FTFC (Optional) | Weekly | Long-term alignment |
The Swing Trading Timeframe Stack
| Purpose | Timeframe | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Entry & Stop | Daily | Precise execution |
| Combos, Entry & Targets | Weekly | Setup identification |
| Trend Confirmation | Monthly | Directional bias |
| FTFC (Optional) | Quarterly | Long-term alignment |
FTFC Scenarios
Full Continuity (Best): All timeframes aligned in same direction. Example: 5-min bullish, 30-min bullish, 1-hour bullish, Daily bullish. Action: Trade aggressively in direction of continuity.
Partial Continuity (Good): Most timeframes aligned, one neutral (showing a 1). Example: 5-min bullish, 30-min bullish, 1-hour neutral, Daily bullish. Action: Trade with caution, smaller size.
No Continuity (Avoid): Timeframes conflict. Example: 5-min bullish, 30-min bearish, Daily bullish. Action: Avoid new entries. Wait for alignment.
The CHECK Visual
5-MIN: [Setup identified] → ENTRY 30-MIN: [CHECK] → Aligned? ✓ 1-HOUR: [CHECK] → Aligned? ✓ DAILY: [CHECK] → Aligned? ✓ WEEKLY: [CHECK] → Aligned? ✓ (optional)
"Full Time Frame Continuity = All the timeframes above follow the SAME trend. This results in the highest probability of a successful trade."
Time Flip — Knowing When the Watch Changes
Time Flip = when a new candle on the given time period forms. Knowing when candles flip helps you anticipate new setups, align entries with fresh candle formation, and time your execution precisely.
Time Flip Table (Market Open Example)
| Time | 5-Min | 15-Min | 30-Min | 1-Hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9:30 | New | — | — | New |
| 9:35 | New | — | — | — |
| 9:40 | New | — | — | — |
| 9:45 | New | New | — | — |
| 10:00 | New | — | New | New |
| 10:15 | New | New | — | — |
| 10:30 | New | — | New | — |
Trading Application
- Anticipating setups: Just before a time flip, watch for setup completion.
- Entry timing: Best entries often come just after a time flip — fresh candle, clean slate.
- Multi-timeframe alignment: When multiple timeframes flip simultaneously, a larger move is likely.

Intraday Strategy — The Day Trader's Stack
Execution Process
Step 1: Identify Setup (30-Minute). Look for a STRAT combo on the 30-minute chart. Mark entry level and targets.
Step 2: Check Higher Timeframes. 1-hour and Daily charts must align. If both aligned = FTFC confirmed.
Step 3: Drop to 5-Minute for Execution. Wait for price to break the entry level. Enter on the break. Place stop on the 5-minute candle extreme.
Step 4: Manage Trade. Targets marked on 30-minute chart. Scale out as targets are hit. Trail stop after first target.
Example Workflow
30-MIN CHART: [2] → [1] → [2] (2-1-2 Bearish Reversal) ↑ ↑ ↑ Entry Stop Target 1 1-HOUR CHART: [CHECK] → Bearish alignment ✓ DAILY CHART: [CHECK] → Bearish trend ✓ 5-MIN CHART: Wait for break below 30-min entry Enter short Stop on 5-min candle high
Key Rules
- 30-min for setup — combos, entry, targets
- 5-min for execution — precise entry and stop
- Daily for trend — directional bias
- Never enter against daily trend — unless exceptional setup
"Use 5-min candles for entry and stop. Use 30-min candles for combinations, entry, and targets."
Swing Strategy — The Position Trader's Stack
Execution Process
Step 1: Identify Setup (Weekly). Look for a STRAT combo on the weekly chart. Mark entry and targets.
Step 2: Check Higher Timeframes. Monthly and Quarterly must align for highest probability swing.
Step 3: Drop to Daily for Execution. Wait for price to break weekly entry level. Enter on daily break.
Step 4: Manage Trade. Targets on weekly chart. Wider stops due to larger timeframe.
Stop Placement Nuance
Daily candle extreme may be very close to entry. Alternative: Find previous support/resistance and place stop there. Wider stop = smaller position size to maintain risk.
"Use daily candles for entry, stop. Use weekly candles for combinations, entry, and targets."
Intraday vs. Swing Comparison
| Aspect | Intraday | Swing |
|---|---|---|
| Execution TF | 5-minute | Daily |
| Setup TF | 30-minute | Weekly |
| Trend TF | Daily | Monthly |
| FTFC TF | Weekly | Quarterly |
| Hold time | Minutes-hours | Days-weeks |
| Stop width | Tight | Wide |
| Position size | Larger | Smaller |
Creating a Watchlist
Use monthly analysis and timeframe continuity to build your watchlist:
- Start with monthly charts — look for strong directional bias (2s, not 1s).
- Drop to weekly — identify STRAT combos forming.
- Check daily — confirm alignment.
- Mark setups that show FTFC across multiple timeframes.
The 4 Cs — Control, Confirm, Conflict, Change
- Control: One timeframe clearly controls direction (strong 2s).
- Confirm: Higher timeframes confirm the same direction (FTFC).
- Conflict: Timeframes disagree — stand aside.
- Change: A timeframe flips direction — prepare for a new setup.
